A Promise and a Prayer!

Episode 7

The Pursuit of Discipline

Today’s Text:  Ephesians 3:17b

“…being rooted and grounded in love…”

Father in Heaven, it is with a sense of profound appreciation of Your presence that I come this morning.  Amidst the busyness of life, I, at times, have felt overwhelmed by the tide of human need.  So many drift through life.  They are subject to the will and whim of others, and are never anchored, grounded, or stable.  Lest, I be caught up, it is my heart longing to be firmly rooted in the knowledge of Your Steadfast Love.

I lift up my hands in praise to You this morning because Your Love is never static.  The Blessing of Your Sweet Spirit continually grows my capacity to live.  Respond anew to my desire to experience the fullness You have prepared for me this day.  May Your Steadfast Love precede my every word and action. Discipline me and enable me to be a channel of light and love to Your world.  Speak to my heart first before I enter into the day.  Truly, lead me as Saviour and Lord.

In my heart is a longing to be grounded amidst those whom I will come into contact this day.  In Your Strength I pray that I will find words to comfort and bless.  Words to infuse hope into the hearts and minds of Your children. Hope that is rooted in Your love and ability to lift us above the clamour, the ceaseless ebb tide of life.

May the circle of Your Steadfast Love embrace us this day.  May You be honoured, as we become more “grounded and rooted in Your Love”,

                                 I pray, in Jesus’ Name

As you consider this devotional, ponder these 3 points for Bible Study.

1. What does this passage tell me about God?

2. What does this passage tell me about myself?

3. What is God trying to tell me?
Is there a promise to claim?   a sin to confess?   an encouragement?   a rebuke?    an assignment?

Surrender to God, the anxieties that rob you of the “peace of mind” that is yours in Christ Jesus today.  Lift them up in prayer and ask God to deal with each concern.

Praise God for His ability to discipline us and bring our witness into harmony with His will.  Surrender to God those areas of your character that need the gentle blessing of His Spirit.
